Chester is one of the cultural and recreational centres of South Shore Nova Scotia, with its many stately Summer homes and yatch club; it is known for its relaxed sailing lifestyle.

The village has two natural harbours; Front Harbour on the east and Back Harbour on the west. The waters of Mahone Bay, with its numerous islands, are well known for yachting. A ferry connects the village to two islands nearby: Big Tancook Island and Little Tancook Island.

Chester is on Nova Scotia’s beautiful South Shore, along the scenic, coastal Lighthouse Route. The city of Halifax is around 45 minutes’ drive and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Old Town Lunenburg, the bustling small town of Mahone Bay and picturesque Peggy’s Cove are also within driving distance.

The village has shops, cafes and restaurants, a small, sandy beach, outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts and golf course.

The area is excellent for outdoor recreational activities including sailing, kayaking and canoeing, fishing, hiking, trail walking and cycling, as well as coastal exploring, visiting art and craft galleries, antiques shopping and sightseeing.
